New Year Greetings from Sree
2018 New Year Resolutions and greetings
-from Ariya
My New Year Resolution Benevolence, Compassion, Sympathetic Joy and Equanimity towards all beings
Shall strive for harmony, sharing happiness and peace In this world over the short time, I am destined to live, Four-fold noble practice, to counter anger and cruelty, Imposters, jealousy & bias towards own, must be dimmed
Antidote for anger, benevolence, I should learn and adhere To the heinous crime, cruelty, compassion is the act humane Jealousy, the green-eyed monster, doused with sympathetic joy Avoid partiality to own views, kith and kin by way of equanimity
Loving kindness, also called benevolence is a quality sublime Being aware of illnesses and dangers to others and protect in time Good example here is how a pregnant mother, protects her baby From possible dangers & illnesses, even by giving up her pet hobby
Compassion, my heart should soften, seeing others suffering I should endeavour with all my might to reduce their burden It is ‘Karuna’ described as a fragrance of the quality humane Like Metta, kindness should be extended beyond kith and kin
Sympathetic joy or ‘Muditha’ a sublime quality, opposite of envy Genuine rejoice over others success conquering thoughts, jealousy Congratulatory attitude coming from sweetness of heart and rejoice It is that heavenly attitude makes friends and the world very happy
‘Upekka’ equanimity, the toughest status of the four, must develop ‘Discerning rightly and viewing justly with absolute impartiality Ups and downs are the rule, I should face the fame and the infamy, Loss or gain, praise or insult, as well take pain and comfort equally
I wish a very happy New Year, 2018 to all my batch mates!

Memories
Let’s not forget the four beloved batch mates we lost this year. Our thoughts and prayers are with their their families during this holiday season
Lastly, consistent with the seasonal mood Ruthraj Edwards, has submitted the following post regarding his beautiful “Pohutukawa” in full bloom from his own garden. Thanks Eddie.

.
Hi All,
In one of my last posts, I did promise to send pics of my tree when it is in bloom.Herewith is pic of the tree in our garden. It is still not in full bloom but the display will be complete by Christmas day. Metrosideros excelsa(New Zealand Christmas tree aka “Pohutukawa” in maori) has 12 species, all endemic to New Zealand. It is an evergreen from the myrtle family. The local Maori call it “rakau rangita” as they regard it as a chiefly tree and it’s flowers are known as ” kahika” Our garden specimen is only 7 years old but around New Zealand there are many magnificient specimens growing to over 30 metres in height and long lived at more than a hundred years.
This tree in bloom is a salient feature of coastal New Zealand during Christmas. It is nature’s natural decor of green and red.
May I take this opportunity to wish you all(whether you celebrate it or not), a happy Christmas and hope that the New Year brings you all you desire.
Best wishes and warm regards to all our batch mates and their families.
Eddie and Indra,
Whakatane.

Diwali- the real meaning is , as far as I know – was when Sita was
kidnapped and taken to Lanka by Ravana, Rama was sooo grief stricken , that
the people of is Kingdom in India went into a state of mourning and turned
off ALL sources of Light .
Then as years passed- Rama with the helo of Hanuman the King of The Monkey
Kingdom brought back Sita to India.
Rama was soooo delighted and so were the people of his Kingdom, that they
all lit their sources of Light — Hence Diwali is The Festival Of Lights .
Someone sent this to me back in 2014- when I was in SL after the RU- and
it was Diwali time
Nice photo of a Happy Family !!!
Enjoy – eagle D Wish Happy Diwali to all our mates
Diwali celebrates victory over baddies
Light and happiness over gloom and darkness
Let us enjoy this Holy day ushering goodness

Happy Mother’s Day !!
I have all these three pictures framed and hung in my bedroom and I love
looking at them, first thing in the morning, and it gives me no end of joy
to start my day !
I am clinging to my son’s ( Shane- my only child born in Canada 43 yrs ago
) arm as I was a few months after surgery for Repair of Ruptured Achilles
Tendon , and I was very nervous of the waves , yet, I wanted to get into the
warm salt water of the Indian Ocean.
Here , my son is saying to me — ‘ ” don’t worry Mom you will be fine ,
just hold on to me …. “.
It is amazing how we hold on to our children in our old age , for
sustainence, in more than one way ..
We visited SL – to see my Amma – age 94- and she passed away a year later .
The Inuit mothers- just lovely happy faced young moms – just coming out of
the only grocery store in that small coastal Arctic town .
The babies are in an Amouti- a large pouch that is the hood of the jacket-
where the baby is tucked in .
When the baby has over grown the Amouti- it is used to carry around
groceries !
A very practical way of doing things- that they have been doing for the
past 5000 years !

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.
A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 7,900 times in 2015. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 7 trips to carry that many people. Thank you for making this blog a success. Click below to view the stats.
Wish you all ’64 batch mates much health and happiness in the year to come.
