The problem is non availability in poor counties, even if vaccines are available, logistics is a problem. But the disgusting part is the so called Anti VVaxers. Hope for devine interventions as you are doing. Best to you and yours.

I have not figured out even now how you look great every year you got older.. Iranthie, Chamindee & Hiran joins me in wishing you [ Uncle Dharma from kids ] a very Happy Birthday & Many more Happy Birthdays to come.

  6. Dear Dharma,
I had a difficult choice to make on the occasion of having to send you my best wishes for your birthday. The choice was either to say everything that I wanted to say which would have qualified to be called the longest ‘jathaka’ ever or simply say in short – it has been my good fortune to have you as a true and dear friend from the day we met in the anatomy block to this day.
Lots of love to the whole family,

    1. Dear CJ,
First, thank you for your kind birthday wishes. I never expected to live this long. According to my study of palmistry, i should have kicked the bucket at 42. “Short life line” and here, I made it to 79! Yes, we have had a fantastic friendship since our paths crossed in 1964.. I cherish our friendship, perhaps one of the best in my life! I will mention just of the many, many happy events. You were the best man at our wedding. But then you are such a popular friend for many. I think you must have be holding the record for being the best man in weddings, including twice on the same day!! Yes, there is enough for a “Jathaka story” . Mostly good and some not so good. dharma and Yogamny.

    1. Thank you dear Praxy and Ranjit,
Your wishes across the ocean or (“big pond” as they refer to the Atlantic.) are received with much thanks. You are right, at this time wealth and prosperity are not a priority, health and happiness are. I still desire wealth, not for myself but to give to the needy, especially in Sri Lanka, In a way I am happy, very happy with our present life. I feel guilty when I see the number people, especially, children, even in prosperous country as USA, suffering from starvation and disease. I see request for childhood cancers, cleft lip etc. Should I make more sacrifices to help them. Thanks again for wishes and Devine help! We wish you and yours the same. dharma and yogamany

  8. Hi Dharma,
Happy Birthday to you my dear Bird Buddy !
May you enjoy this day, with family, just relaxing in your home, lounging around, and Bird Watching/ Photographing Birds , with your family- specially the little grandkids .
I love the book you put together with your grand kids ” Our Back Yard Birds – by Grandpa and Grandkids ” .
What a perfect way to encourage the next generation to All Things Nature .

Now that the winter is here to stay , I was out ‘Snowy Owling ‘ a few days ago, , and they are already here, along with Rough Legged Hawks — Our Arctic Visitors – -who think that Ontario is a good place to spend the winter !

So my dear, it was great meeting up with you and your wife, during the various Batch RU’s in Beruwala — very unlikely we will meet again , as we are now even worse off being Covid Captives with this new darn variant .

Hope the Childrens Art Project in Jaffna is doing good .

Good Wishes to you and family-
Happy Backyard Winter Birding , Have a Safe and Healthy winter , and above all Have a Very Happy Birthday day today .

    1. Hi dear Deepthi, my birding buddy, thank you for your kind wishes. Need them.

I must admit I am a “Lazy Birder” . I prefer to have the birds come to me with bribes of food and water. However 2 years ago did go to Ecuador to photograph mainly hummers. It was a success. I am yet to edit and organize them. will let you know when I do. Unlike me you are a real birder, looking for them in the worst climates and tracking miles. Good luck. The snowy owls must be warming you up. Good luck. Happy birding.
Yes, “Our backyard birds by Grandpa and grandkids” is one of the shining moments of my life. Since the publication, i have photographed 4 more species in my backyard including the “yellow bellied sapsucker”
( Sounds like swear words!!). We hope to put out a second edition. Hope i can do it before I croak. I have requested my daughter Joann to finish it if i am not there.

Yes, it was nice to see at the RU. your dance especially getting Shoukat to join was great. He did well.
Don’t know when we can have another RU. In the mean time Sam G, Asokan and I are trying the next best. ZOOM CHAT. We did a trial with 6 batch mates in USA. We are wondering how manage the whole batch without confusion and Chaos. We keep posting.

The art gallery in Chavakachcheri is doing ok. but unable to function on account of COVID related lockdown and curfew. However the staff need to be paid and upkeep met.

Fortunately we and our family are safe and well. Wish you the same.

    1. Thank you Cletus,
I am more likely to refer to you by your initials “ICM” . Appreciate your wishes. Need it now more than ever! Every time i see your greetings, I decide I must contact you. However like many things in my life the thoughts remain in the head! One day while catting with Wimal, he said he is in contact with you. I got your phone number on many many times. Last time he said “Don’t forget to call ICM. Do it as soon as you put down the phone now”. However, it did not work that way!! Blame it laziness and impending dementia!!
Early this year a small tornado felled down a 50 year old pine tree. When they were removing the fallen tree, I got cross sectional pieces aka wood slices and wood cookies, planning to make stepping stones.
Then I sanded them to make decorative pieces. This has become my new hobby. I am experimenting with
      wood burning.
I was thinking of you when it was woodworking which is your hobby. You must however be much more sophisticated. Perhaps turning out beautiful furniture etc. will try.
Wishing the best to you and your family. Stay well. dharma and Yogamany

I think you were in a rush on the way to Colombo. and could not stay for meal. My memory is failing me. I do have some photo of you and Ranjini at the gallery. 1. Hi Satha and Selvi,
Thank you very much for your wises to me for Joy, good health and prosperity. I appreciate that .I will take it in that order of priority. I notice now we all wish good health in the forefront. When we were younger health had low priority. Even if I am poor and not good in health, If I am happy life will be good for me. Sorry I got carried away. We wish you and your happiness and good health. Just as Praxy did, I will drop wealth!!!. I wonder if Selvi is still working. I know Satha you are retired and doing a lot of reading. I wonder when we can meet in Adelaide or elsewhere. Nice meeting you in Penang.

You certainly fit the saying “A friend in need is a friend indeed” you used your army contacts to help us go to Chavakachcheri across the check point at Omanthai preventing foreigners from going to Jaffna. Thanks. We also enjoyed the mini RUs we had in Colombo. We also appreciate Roshani’s company and craft skills. Wish you and your family happiness and health. dharma and yogamany.

  12. Dear Dharma,
I am marvelling at the effort it must have taken for you to pen all those generous and individualised responses to each of your well wishers. You have mentioned the fact that you have reached 79, hinted at impending dementia none of which is evidenced in your responses. You have set a new trend in this way of responding to birthday wishes. Of course it will not be problem for some of us buggers who will only have to write just the odd reply.
Your memory and your spelling (99.9%) seem faultless.
Well done and enjoy the festive season with Yogamany and the family.
    Love and best wishes,
    CJ
