Edward Jenner at age 47 in 1796 vaccinated James Phipps with cowpox and showed that the boy was immune to Small Pox.He predicted the world wide eradication of Small Pox which was finally ACHIEVED ALMOST 200 YEARS LATER IN 1980. Jenner studied at St.George’s Hospital in Tooting in U.K. This was the Hospital to which I used to refer my patients when I was practising near it as a GP for 20 years.

It won’t be a merry Christmas and a happy new year this time around. The fact of the matter is that the entire world had a wake up call with covid -19. The possibility 0f this type of disaster , a pandemic ,was discussed by some politicians as far back as 2013. Unfortunately no one believed that it would happen. Well it did. Now the entire world has hit rock bottom. We cannot go down any further.
The vaccine is here. Hooray ! .Once as many people around the world are vaccinated and we can hopefully eradicate or suppress the spread of Covid -19 the world will definitely will be a better place.
Piching and I take this opportunity to wish everyone of our batch mates and all their loved ones ,compliments of the season and a New Year filled with good health , peace, joy and prosperity.

Guess where I will be heading to once I get the vaccine etc and this darn covid thing is done and over with — — you guessed it — Sri Lanka- ! if over seas visitors are allowed into the island .
