I can’t let this occasion pass without thanking you yet again for all your kindness and support and very clear advice(in spite of the near empty bottle of Chivas by your side) during Daya’s illness.
I also can’t let this occasion pass without remembering your wonderful humour and your ‘on the spot funny responses’ to our comments.
So, just to round off the occasion I am attaching a joke which I hope you hadn’t heard before and which is also decent enough not to offend any ladies who might read it.
The farmer, the rooster and the popcorn.
A FARMER DECIDED HE WANTED TO GO TO TOWN AND SEE A MOVIE.
THE TICKET AGENT ASKED,
“SIR, WHAT’S THAT ON YOUR SHOULDER?”
THE OLD FARMER SAID,
“THAT’S MY PET ROOSTER CHUCK. WHEREVER I GO, CHUCK GOES.”
“I’M SORRY SIR,” SAID THE TICKET AGENT.
“WE CAN’T ALLOW ANIMALS IN THE THEATER.”
THE OLD FARMER WENT AROUND THE CORNER AND STUFFED CHUCK DOWN HIS OVERALLS. THEN HE RETURNED TO THE BOOTH, BOUGHT A TICKET, AND ENTERED THE THEATER.
HE SAT DOWN NEXT TO TWO OLD WIDOWS NAMED MILDRED AND MARGE.
THE MOVIE STARTED AND THE ROOSTER BEGAN TO SQUIRM. THE OLD FARMER
UNBUTTONED HIS FLY SO CHUCK COULD
STICK HIS HEAD OUT AND WATCH THE MOVIE.
“MARGE,” WHISPERED MILDRED.
“WHAT?” SAID MARGE.
“I THINK THE GUY NEXT TO ME IS A PERVERT.”
“WHAT MAKES YOU THINK SO?” ASKED MARGE?
“HE UNDID HIS PANTS AND HE HAS HIS THING OUT”, WHISPERED MILDRED.
“WELL, DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT”, SAID MARGE.. “AT OUR AGE WE’VE SEEN ‘EM ALL”
“I THOUGHT SO TOO”, SAID MILDRED,
“BUT THIS ONE’S EATIN’ MY POPCORN

Cannot forget the week we spent with you in Sylvania Waters/ Sydney, Treats of Wade [ hot & Warm!] you got for Iranthie, great jokes & laughing times we had across bottle of Chivas Regal, how great you treated us, forcing us to eat different currys made by Jean, fun times we had with two of you & Jenninie [ she was still single then ], short trips we did sight seing & dinner you gave at your home to us, some local friends & Siri Kannangara; they were great times. Dear Batch mates, At my age birthdays are becoming a nightmare I want to remain YOUNG !!
I am still working — If patients find out my age, they may not like to see me thinking that I am “out dated ”
For this reason I have been hiding my age even from my staff. Now its slowly getting out of my hands – leaked especially through my 2 children, 4 grand children & the extended family members.
When I was young not many sent birthday greetings, but now i am getting many phone calls — “Hi seelan, How do you feel getting Old ” Irritating eh???
Whatever said & done its really heart warming when you receive birth day greetings from my dear batch mates.
Thank you all very much for your kind wishing.
My 2 daughters, one son in law, 4 grand children & Jean gave me a “quiet party” – Lunch in the local Bowling club – Had only one Beer & no Chivas as I drove the car!!
Ariya’s attachment to the birthday salutations is such he woke me up at 1 AM to wish me. Thanks Ariya.
