“Our Google Home”-Eddie

Hi Batch mates,

This is a useful new appliance for your homes. Some of you already have it but for the benefit of others , here it is.
Google Home, responds to voice commands, answers questions, plays music that you like and can even control your home lighting and temperature if your home is wired for remote activation.
Hope you like it.Have a listen to it in action in this video clip from home.

  2. Hey Eddie- who is the Living Doll- the new gadget ??
I am not a gadget queen- so, this is not for me- but, I do know folks who have this –
My neighbors have one- and they’ watch ‘ their home in Ontario, while ‘wintering ‘ in Arizona !

By the way- I just LOVE the Song Living Doll by ? Everley Brothers – I was crazy about this song back in the 50’s and would hammer this (and a few other songs in the 50’s era, ) out on the piano, just to irritate my mother !
NIce Gadget- Nice memory of an old song with a new twist !

    • Thanks Deepthie.First a correction. What your neighbours have, according to your description is an IP Camera and not Google Home or Amazozon Axela as mentioned by Sam.Yes, Living doll was quite a favourite in times gone by.The good old days, bring back memories of guys and gals singing round the piano without a care in the world.I can imagine you thumping the piano with gusto.Eddie.

  3. Eddie,
We had the amazon version of it called Amazon Alexa. Recently they came out with the video version called Amazon Echo. Echo did the same things with added benefit of Video. I will add a picture of it on your post.

  4. Thanks Rani, Deepthie and Sam for your comments. This is an inexpensive tool for fun and entertainment. It is about 150 USD and only needs a broad band connection and WiFi.Yes, Sam , please put the Amazon version online too.I think apple too has a similar version. The addition of Living doll by Cliff Richard was just a pun to say that I had an intelligent talking living doll! I first saw it at Sam’s place – Amazon Alexa . I was fascinated by it. I did not know about it till then but now it is available here and also the modified version. Our House is about 35 years old and I do not think the wiring can mange with remote control . However I like how it plays songs I still love Cliff Richard songs including Living Doll . Thanks 🙏 for posting it . Praxy

  5. Thanks Sam.Yes, your Amazon version has a screen for videos too.The screen makes it a bit bulky.Google Home sits inobtrusively in my dining area and I use to allow friends to request their choice of music for dining and it works well as a talking point too..Eddie.

  6. Yes I know about the Amazon Alexa , but did not venture on to get one. Amazon Echo as Sam mentioned may be a good one to buy. Nowadays there are tiny cameras that can be used to monitor ones home remotely.

I still depend on my burglar alarm and the neighborhood watch. The latest burglar alarm systems lets you monitor your home remotely and even answer the door bell also remotely.

Alas ! they do not play your favorite music though.

We love the echo because it allows grand kids to use its “drop in” feature, similar to Apple face time activated simply by voice commands by them. Just make sure you give the permission to “drop in” only to your closest friends and family!

  7. Gee- now you guys and Marina are getting a bit too, too ‘techy’ for this old fashioned old head to comprehend !
Welcome to the World of Twenty First Century !

Oh by the way- Cliff Richards – he came to Colombo, in the late 50’s early 60’s and I saw the concert at some place down Bambalapitiya off, Galled Road on the sea side .
I think it was Donovan Andre who had a set up for concerts back then .

Now I do recall the song Living Doll was sung by him and Not Everley Bros as I said before .

Getting my father to take me and my sister for the concert– was concert by it self at home !!- but we made it to the concert !!!

    • HI Eddie- I do recall going for some concert at St Peter’s college and some guy was playing the piano ‘with gusto’ — the Kandiyan Express , and also Nihal Fonseka was singing in his lovely voice .

I cant remember a Blue Diamonds concert .

I think I just went with another girl to see the guys at St P college, as my friend wanted to see some guy there and I was the ‘body guard’ !!
No one told us Not to Look !

I dont know, how I managed to trick my father into taking me and my friend for the concert . !!
I think, my father thought my friend was a real goody goody convent girl, who would be a good influence on his crazy daughter .
She is still my good friend, and we still have such good laughs over those days !

Those were fun days for sure – long before the days of Kynsey Rd !
