Sam’s Photo Challenge

This is Day 2 of my 7-day photo challenge in Face Book. I was nominated by a friend to post one nature photo a day for 7 days and nominate a new person every day. Photos don’t have to be recent. They can be sometime during your lifetime but taken by “YOU”. The goal is to flood Facebook with beautiful nature photos.

This photo was taken several years ago in Palm Springs California. I was fortunate to have a HummingBird post for me.

  1. Oh it is a beautiful bird..Are they called humming birds because they can hum tunes or talk like the Mynah bird? Praxy

  2. This bird is a “Ruby Throated” Hummingbird. Their tiny wings flap at the rate of 200 times per second particularly during the mating season creating a “Hum”, hence the name Humming Bird.

  3. A beautiful picture of nature. Another fact about humming birds is – it is the only bird that can fly backwards. , straight up or down and sideways.

As a matter of fact Helicopter s were modeled after Humming birds.

    1. Dear Nisantha,
Thank you for adding information about this bird
An instance we can truly say, ‘seen a pretty bird’
A marvel of nature, pleasure to the human eye
Grateful for Sam’s photo catching talent and eye

  4. Dear Sam,
Lovely colour bird, must be a female to be so pretty
Have seen Humming birds before but not this colour
Flapping has to be fast, to accommodate a reverse gear
For unearthing these gems, you too are a Gem, my dear
