In March of 2016 we were in Sri Lanka. Since “RU fever” has not abated, I wanted meet our batch mates in SL. So I sent out emails to batch mates in SL asking to meet for a meal and forward to anyone who may be interested in joining. Almeida was my main man. He was in India attending a Catholic family retreat at that time. As soon as he got back he contacted many and arranged to meet at a Chinese restaurant on Duplication Road, I think it was Peach tree or something like that.
We planned to meet at 8pm. At about 7:45 pm Aley calls me and asks “Dharma, did you bring a spare generator with you?” Knowing Aley, I felt it was one of his stunts. Then he said there was an island wide power failure! By this time we found the restaurant and was in the parking lot. The whole place was in total darkness with employees milling around. I did not see any batch mates, not even Aley! Then I saw one guy standing at the gate turning away customers. I thought I will stand at the entrance in case batch mates arrived. Then Aley called to ask all to stay put at the parking lot. As I reached the entrance a taxi pulled up and the employee was turning it away. In fact, Perumal had come and was turned back. Then I saw Praxy getting down. She said she saw me and decided find out. Few others also turned up. Aley quickly found a suitable place with a working standby generator. We all headed to the new location. Aley gave the directions to those on the way. Anoja and Damayanthi decided to do some sight seeing, but eventually got there.
